Description
Children explore the outside of the school building and investigate the different materials used in the construction and why they are used. Data collected can be used to create Venn diagrams of materials that share the same properties.
Learning Objectives
Science: Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets.
Demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes.
Maths: Solve comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in bar charts, pictograms, tables and other graphs.
Resources: 4 pencils, 4 clip boards, 4 x activity sheets or more if working in pairs
