How to Lift a Teacher

Description
This activity requires 4 scaffolding boards and bricks. They can often be found for free from parents or local building suppliers. Children invent a seesaw device to lift a person – learning all about levers and fulcrums at the same time.
Learning Objectives
Science: Recognise that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
Select from and use a range of materials according to their functional properties and aesthetic qualities.
Resources: At least 4 scaffolding boards of varying lengths up to 2 meters, 4 bricks, other materials (excluding rope) that act as red herrings eg. school trays, sticks, small stones, buckets, white boards and pens.
