Description
Den building and shelter making is always a favourite of outdoor learning and when water is added into the mix it becomes one of our most asked for activities! Can teams build a waterproof structure large enough to fit all team members inside and keep them dry?
Learning Objectives
Science: Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets.
D&T: Use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose, aimed at particular individuals or groups.
Evaluate their ideas and products against their own design criteria and consider the views of others to improve their work.
Resources: Den building materials including, non-waterproof fabrics and tarpaulin, ball of string, scissors, water and watering can with sprinkler head. (If resources are limited can be done with just tarps and string) 4 x science sheets, clip boards and pens.
